  • 3-on-3  -  RULES OF PLAY

  • Initial possession is determined by a coin toss and changes hands after each made basket.  Team winning the coin toss wears the pinnies.  Jump balls are determined by a possession arrow. The referee will handle the ball after all foul calls and any stoppage of play, but not after made baskets.
  • SUBSTITUTIONS ONLY WHEN THE REFEREE IS HOLDING THE BALL.
  • Any possession change after a made basket or stoppage of play must begin outside the "check" (3 point) line with the player handling the ball first having both feet outside the check line. After a made basket the ball is considered dead, and the team that has scored must allow the opposition to take the ball freely outside the check line THE DEFENSE WILL HAND OR "CHECK" THE BALL TO THE OFFENSE TO START.

  • On defensive rebounds, steals and defense getting an airball, the ball must be returned outside the check line before the rebounding team can attempt to score. Offensive rebounds can be immediately shot again. The opposition does not "check" the ball in these situations.

  • The referee can advise a team that they have not completely cleared the check line, but if they proceed and score, the basket will be counted as if they had scored against themselves.

  • Any ball that goes over the center court line into the other court is considered out of play and will be handled by the referee with possession awarded to the appropriate team.

  • One point will be awarded for a field goal or a foul shot, two points for any field goal outside the check or 3 point line, games played to 15 are over at a score of 15 -14, it is not necessary to win by 2 points. Games can be over with a score of 16 for the winner if a 2 point shot was the last score.

  • FOULING: All personal/technical fouls are counted against a team total. A player can't foul out, but may be ejected. ANY PLAYER EJECTED FROM A GAME WILL BE ELIMINATED FROM FURTHER PLAY IN THE TOURNEY.

  • Prior to the 5th Team foul, no shots are awarded for any foul, unless intentional or flagrant.  At any time, intentional or flagrant fouls result in one foul shot being awarded and possession of the ball going to the offended team.  Other than that, prior to the 5th Team Foul 1) a non-shooting foul will result in the offended team retaining possession, 2) an offensive foul will result in disallowing a made basket and a change of possession, 3) a shooting foul with a missed basket will result in retained possession and 4) a shooting foul with a made basket will result in the basket being counted and a change of possession.

  • Ball is live on release of foul shot.

  • On and after the 5th Team foul: 1) a non shooting foul results in one foul shot being awarded, 2) any offensive foul will result in disallowing a made basket and one foul shot being awarded to the offended team, 3) any shooting foul, regardless of the basket being made or not will result in one foul shot being awarded, and 4) shooting fouls committed outside the 3 point line will result in two foul shots being awarded if the shot is missed, one foul shot if the shot is made.

  • ALL REFEREE DECISIONS ARE FINAL
