Opening
of THE CENTRE
We’re in … after …
Tons of planning…
Lots of false starts…
Many hidden surprises…and Erin Hoops on March 12th opened it Erin Hoops Community Centre in the old Erin Public School on Main Street in the Village of Erin.
Everyone, of the first people into the gym were challenged to make their first basket.
Over 20 people made their first shot. Naturally the President of Erin Hoops, Gary Kaitting, was the one to take the first. He made it. So did Patrick Suessmuth who followed right behind him.
With everyone making their first official shot in this new-old gym, we all felt the gym proved out good and definitely acceptable for people to increase their confidence and have fun in the name of basketball in Erin.
Funny the challenges one meets in opening an old gym. Like water - until opening day no one thought to run the water to be sure it was fresh in the school system’s pipes. (Be assured we went in early on the first day and ran it for slightly over half an hour, including the drinking fountain in the hall.)
Then came the discovery of no paper towels in the Girls Change Room. Oh my, such an oversite. Shame on us in Erin Hoops.
As I write this Sat. morning, the first day is behind us. We met the challenge. We opened the gym. No major gremlin caught us. Everyone had fun, which is the goal of basketball in Erin Hoops.
Anyone, experienced or not, is welcome to come out an enjoy some ping pong as well as basketball. Yes there are two ping pong tables, paddles and balls available for fun too.
If you go to the Erin Hoops web site, www.erinhoops.ca/photos/march_break.htm, you will find a page of pictures from our first days in the “new” gym.
P.S. Rex, Erin’s Air Bud, basketball dog is back in the gym again for people to pet. He has his needs too.
