Sept. 2004 - Miracle of a YOUTH
CENTRE
Let me try to share with you the beauty of Erin’s Youth Centre in the old Erin Public School so kindly rented to us by Gary Langen.
You, the people of Erin, have brought in “stuff”. A couch here. A chair there. Games, etc. A mish mash of stuff.
We, the adults running Erin Hoops, hope the kids will come.
We hope the kids will us the “stuff”. Will play.
We open the doors.
Some kids come.
They play.
We listen – games rattle.
Kids socialize – play – chat – romp.
We know we’ve done it.
We’ve made an Erin Youth Centre, around the myriad of gifts from Town’s people.
Ping pong ball ring out.
Basketballs bounce or thump, depending on your tolerance level for the noise.
Gockey (hockey) sticks clash.
Arcade games ring out.
Kids wander past.
Another pair of kids, we’ve never seen before, drift in. Look lost. Spot a game, a friend and away they go.
Pool balls clank.
Air hockey pucks are paddle smashed.
The CENTRE’S taxi is used. (The taxi is a donated bike the kids peddle over to friends places or into Town for a snack, or…)
Awe the peace and tranquility of the Kids of Erin having fun.
