Purpose of

all three

Camps

Fun.

To learn and expand on the basic skills of basketball.

Campers should expect to be challenged to personally play their best and work their hardest throughout the day at improving their basketball skills (naturally, while having fun at basketball).

Gallivanting, sitting out (unless feeling ill) and horsing around are all discouraged.

The camp's fun is in learning the game of basketball.

Daily Times

Core hours:   9:00 to 4:00 daily

Open Supervised hours: 8:30 to 6:00 daily

(The extra open supervised hours are for open shooting practice and convenience in dropping off and picking up campers.)

Re: 6, 7 & 8 year olds Parents, your 6, 7 and 8 year olds will be using a size 5 basketball on baskets about 8 feet high (versus the usual 10 foot high basket).  If in doubt about your child's ability to cope contact Patrick Suessmuth (see bottom of this page) for a try out or consider registering your child in one of the Station Road Nursery School's Summer Camps.

Note:  when possible, some learning activities will be conducted outside.

A sport related youth video will often be shown in this camp, either because of rain/inclement weather or youths are physically worn out and need a significant break.  Sample videos used include: Sandlot, The Big Green, Kicking and Screaming. Like Mike, A Kid In King Arthur's Court, Rebound, etc.

Articles

Articles from the Erin Advocate describing the 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2003 camps are linked to here by clicking the appropriate year below.  In inputting these article I was flooded by sweet memories (some not so sweet too) about camp people and camp events.  These article are "longish" but informative about camp events you might like to learn about.  Each articles have UP links, which if you click the UP word will bring you back to this page.

Camp

Guarantee

Camp uses praise (positive reinforcement) extensively.  In a typical camp of 40 players four Kg. of wrapped candies are doled out as rewards for demonstrated, improved performance (not so coaches appear to be "nice guys").  The camp uses (short) time outs to control most behavioural issues with campers, if such extreme measure are ever needed.

Each participant receives a certificate recognizing their participation in the camp.  Also a personalized, individual basketball report card on each camper's basketball is prepared by the camper's coach in Camps 1 and 2 only.

The ratio of campers to coaches will be roughly one coach for every seven campers.  Coaches are local Erin basketball players who are keenly interested in sharing their "love" of basketball.  (Most have previously attended earlier camps.)  It, this love, is infectious so be alerted that campers usually catch this love of ball.)

Special Note
Please no ankle socks as blisters develop on the achilles' tendon due to the amount of running that occurs in our camps.

Please use longer length athletic socks (preferably two per foot) help to reduce/prevent this problem.

No sandals or flip flops - running shoes are a must.

Parents Come on out and watch your child during the camp day.

What we do in the camp is open for everyone in the community to come and see.  (Sorry, you can't participate, except for Wednesday afternoon.)

What we are doing in the camp should be as important to you as it is to your child.  We welcome adults/people watching.  Kids learn more and behave better when others are watching.  Please feel free to talk with and say hello to all camp staff when they are not busy.

Suggestion: come early when you are picking up a camper and you can then share and feel the flavour of these camps.

About our
