Fisher King (1991) |
7:00 pm Fisher King The FISHER KING is a good, old fashioned story of guilt, poverty, love and madness. A madman carries out a massacre in a club, after hearing the popular DJ Jack Lucas make a mean remark to one of his listeners. Jeff Bridges plays Jack Lucas, the New York radio talk show host who goofed. When it gets reported that the man had done after the remark by Jack Lucas, he knows his career is over, but also realizes how he has been affecting people. Dejected by remorse, Jack is wandering the streets and meets Parry (Robin Williams), a homeless man whose mind is gone. Parry believes Jack to be a sort of hero and Jack can't get him to think otherwise. Lucas strikes up a friendship with Perry, an ex-professor who has become a tramp because of his wife's violent death (she was killed by the madman). Jack decides to help him both searching a nonexistent Holy Grail and conquering Lidia, the girl he fell in love with.
Probably the movie's most interesting aspect
is how director Terry Gilliam shows what is
happening in Parry's imagination,
contrasting it with reality. The Red Knight
and Holy Grail make for some unusual scenes.
This may be Robin Williams' best performance
ever. 138 Minutes.
