Drill
Type: Dribbling, Defense
Description: Have players set up in two lines as in the Diagram, one along the base line (offensive players), the other a long the opposite side line (defensive players).
Diagram forces left hand dribbling.
Which side the side line "line' is on determines which hand the offensive player will likely need to use to dribble and shoot with.
On "GO." from the coach the offensive player can start to run (line 1) to catch the ball tossed (line 2) to her/him as s/he comes up court.
After pass defensive player rushes on court to harass/defend (line 4) the offensive player's dribble/attack (line 3) at the basket at the far end of the court.
Players return to other line outside the court area.
Variation: See Drill 11 - Chase
Points of Emphasis: - Dribbling with proper hand. - Speed in dribbling. - Shooting under pressure. - Defensive pressure on shooter. - (If you wish to coach it - fouling the shooter who would score otherwise so shot is missed. If you add this be sure foul is not a push as that will be an intentional foul. Foul should be a reach in foul trying for the ball by being over top of the shooter's arms. Note: this type of foul is used to prevent a sure score. Failing to prevent the score is worse than not fouling at all. Use with extreme caution not allowing it in practices at all.)
